Incipient Landed Gentry

Provided all goes well at the zoning hearing, in two weeks we’ll be purchasing 60 acres in central Indiana.

We did it! Now all it needs is a name. And trees. And a house. And… well… lots of things.

This purchase has been in the works for a while, and in my excitement I’ve been doing a ton of pre-purchase site planning. The most useful tools I’ve found thus far for doing so in a sane, budget friendly, and environmentally sound manner have been Holistic Management - defining our goals for the land and our lifestyle and having a system for checking decisions against those goals - and the Scale of Permanence - which aspects of the land can we change and in what order should we make decisions about them.
